The minimum requirements for upgrading to Windows 11 demanded by Microsoft continue to generate news. A good number of computers will be left out of being able to leap, something that has been reflected in the Surface range and this is causing complaints from users, so much so that Microsoft is testing to lower these requirements and allow seventh-generation Intel processors and AMD Zen 1.
The minimum requirements needed to upgrade to Windows 11 are much stricter than those that a PC needed at the time to leap to Windows 10. Changing the Windows version was extremely easy. In this case, however, we are limited by the TPM chip and supported processors.
In the hands of the Windows Insider Program
In this last sense, the company, as reported in its blog, could be open for equipment based on seventh-generation Intel processors and AMD Zen 1, which can leap to Windows 11. A process that is at the expense of seeing how these teams behave in a test phase.
Microsoft’s objective is that computers that cannot offer good performance with the new version of Windows will not be able to make the evolutionary leap, even if this means angering users. According to Microsoft’s statement, “we need a minimum system requirement that allows us to adapt the software and hardware to keep pace with people’s expectations”.
Until now, along with the requirements for TPM 2.0, there was also the need to have one of the processors on this list:
- Intel 8th Gen.
- Intel 9th Gen
- Intel 10th Gen
- Intel 11th Gen or newer.
- Intel Xeon Skylake-SP.
- Cascade Lake-SP
- Cooper Lake-SP
- Xeon Ice Lake-SP.
To all of them, now the company could add the seventh-generation Intel and AMD Zen 1, but everything will depend on the results obtained within the Insider Program with the release of the first Build of Windows 11.
It should be remembered that, according to Microsoft, Windows 11 is designed to be compatible on computers with processors of more than 1 GHz and 2 cores, with 4GB of memory and 64GB of storage, in line with the minimum requirements that the system demands to use Office and Microsoft Teams.
