Google implements a new warning system where it notifies about the reliability of new trends in search results.
To this day Google remains the essential web search tool when we want to know all the information about something we don’t know.
However, with the Covid-19 Coronavirus pandemic, we learned that even this search engine requires active judgment on the part of its users.
Because with absolutely new phenomena where information moves and updates too fast, there is sometimes the risk of falling into misinformation.
That is why the search engine has now implemented a much-needed and urgent improvement.
Google warns you when search results are not so reliable
Through their official blog, the folks at Google have revealed that they are testing a new feature designed for the scenario described above. Where the results returned may sometimes not be the most up to date or reliable.
So now, when searching for information on a topic that is too recent, the engine will launch a notification warning that the results could be unreliable. Because it would be about very recent topics, such as news in development:
It appears that these search results are changing rapidly. If this topic is very new, it can sometimes take a while for results from reliable sources to be added.
That the text that the search engine displays before displaying the query results. We would apply to cases like SARS-CoV-2 and the investigation of its qualities. Or less massive or niche incidents, such as the alleged UFO sighting.
Google would have activated this system a week ago. But in reality, only a small number of users have been able to see it, as it is still in the testing phase.
Initial feedback from beta users is positive and supports the effectiveness of this new set of notifications.
The idea is to gradually polish and open the application and display the contents.
