YouTube is considering changing the dynamics on its home page that will result in a new viewing option.
It is considering automatic playback of videos on this page, following a style similar to Facebook’s timeline videos.
YouTube integrates a player into video previews
So far, YouTube does not allow us to watch a full video on the home page. While we can enable autoplay for these videos, they have no sound and only give us a preview of the content.
So if you want to watch a video you find on the home page, the only option is to follow YouTube’s dynamic and allow it to open on another page. This could change in the future. At least, the YouTube team is considering it, as they let it show in one of their latest tests.
This feature is not enabled for everyone, but some users were already able to test this dynamic on their YouTube account. They were able to scroll through the suggestions on the home page and play the videos in full without problems, to view them without jumping to another page.
So they no longer saw only the preview of the video as they scrolled, but had the option to play it normally. However, there are some modifications to the video player, as can be seen in a tweet sharing this new dynamic on YouTube.
You see the options to enable or disable audio and subtitles, but not much else. There is no setting to enable this option or not, but considering that only this dynamic is being tested it may change in the future.
At the moment, this feature is only available to a group of users, and there is no certainty that it will be implemented in some of the future versions of YouTube.
