Today we are going to review the differences between quad-core vs octa-core processors, and tell which one is better. Manufacturers and developers continue to surprise us with innovations and features. In addition, competition between different brands means that users will have more options when it comes to hardware and operating systems, or as in the case we will see today, processors.

Today, many features and technologies make a mobile phone stand out from the rest. And, as it could not be otherwise, there are three components of smartphones that are really important. We are talking about the camera, screen, and processor. Therefore, we should know the difference between octa-core and quad-core processors.

What are CPU cores?

For those who do not know what cores are, they are specific divisions within a processor. In addition, its main function is to be able to distribute the orders we give from our phone. For example, by clicking on an app we are giving an order and that is possible thanks to the processor. In addition, it will also be in charge of keeping it running smoothly.

Quad-core vs octa-core processor: Which one is better?

Therefore, the cores are dedicated to reading the instructions and executing specific actions so the more cores a mobile device has, the faster it will read and complete these processes.

It is important to know that each of these divisions works independently to respond to the instructions dictated by the software. This means that having more than one core helps to distribute the workload of the device.

The importance of the mobile processor

The processor is mainly responsible for managing the operating system and interpreting instructions from programs and applications through mathematical operations such as addition, subtraction, division, multiplication, and Boolean logic. In other words, we are dealing with a chip that performs the mathematical calculations to make the smartphone work, with the help of the operating system as well.

In addition, the number of cores will be fundamental when it comes to taking into account the performance of the device. In most cases, the processors today are developed under the ARM architecture. Which has been used by different companies to create their processors and CPUs based on this core.

Quad-core vs octa-core processor: Which one is better?

As we mentioned, there are currently different types of processors, although the ones that set the trend are the octa-core and quad-core processors. But what is the real difference between the two?

Quad-core processors have four cores inside. They work independently to execute different instructions in the operating system at the same time. This means that they will be able to execute up to four different functions completely simultaneously. However, it is important to know that the speed of execution of these tasks that we want to perform with the mobile device is not multiplied by the number of processor cores.

In addition, it is not correct to divide the processor speed by the number of cores to know the speed at which each of them works. Therefore, the speed will depend largely on the amount of processing and requirements demanded by the apps we normally use.

Quad-core vs octa-core processor: Which one is better?

And if we look at the eight-core processors, also known as octa-core, they are usually found in most high-end smartphones. Octa-core processors allow different tasks to be executed at the same time at a fairly optimal speed. In addition, processors with this number of cores have a greater capacity to execute the instructions that are set. This is because they use less time and fewer resources to respond.

What is the difference between these processors?

In terms of the speed of execution of different tasks such as using social networks and talking on messaging apps, we may not notice any difference. The fact that the octa-core processor has eight cores does not make it the fastest. In fact, a quad-core processor can be faster, since the speed will depend only on the GHz of the mobile device in question.

Another notable difference we can find between these two processors is that the quad-core has its four cores working steadily. Whereas, in the case of the octa-core, the operation is very different. Only four of its cores remain active, but the rest will remain inactive until their use is necessary.

However, processors with eight cores will offer more advanced technology. In addition, they will offer better energy consumption and will avoid the different crashes that can occur more effectively.
