Today Honor announced a new affordable laptop called MagicBook X and today we are going to talk about its specs, price, and release date. It has been months since Honor has become an independent brand from Huawei in order to avoid restrictions imposed by the US government.
We have already seen the effects of this decision, with the presentation of the first Honor smartphone without Huawei and with Google applications; in addition, the company also confirmed that it would be able to continue selling products with Windows 10.
Honor MagicBook X specs
Now, the Chinese brand presents its new MagicBook X. Especially, it is noted that this new range of laptops aims to demonstrate that Honor can continue to offer good products without Huawei; remember that the MagicBook, until now, was nothing more than Huawei MateBook laptops with a different icon.
In contrast, the new MagicBook Xs boasts of a new thinner and lighter design; these are more akin to “ultrabooks”, as their priority is to offer a highly portable and easy-to-use form factor.
The 14-inch model is very thin at only 15.6 mm while weighing 1.38 kilograms; the 15-inch model weighs 1.56 kg and has a similar thickness of 16.9 mm. The body is made entirely of metal.
Still, there are parts that remain familiar, such as the fingerprint reader in the upper right corner of the keyboard, which allows us to log in securely. The camera hidden in the keyboard, which Huawei bragged so much about, is also retained. That position is necessary, of course, in order to get an almost borderless display.
According to Honor, the 14-inch model has bezels of 4.8 mm, while on the 15-inch it’s 5.3 mm. The screen offers 1080p quality, but it is certified by TÜV Rheinland against blue light and the colors are also acceptable, covering 45% of the NTSC gamut.
Honor has reiterated that leaving Huawei does not mean that its original mission has changed, and wants to continue to offer affordable products. This explains the choice of hardware, staying with the tenth generation of Intel Core processors; it is not the latest, but still gives good results. They are accompanied by dedicated graphics, a GeForce MX250 from NVIDIA.
Honor MagicBook X price and release date
The price of the new Honor MagicBook X is expected to be very competitive. We don’t know if this product will reach the U.S market. In China, prices start at 2,999 yuan (about $465) for the 14-inch model, while the 15-inch model starts at 3099 yuan (about $480).
