It is common knowledge that if you want to tell Siri to play music through the HomePod you have to be an Apple Music subscriber. Some time ago, you can also do it if you are a Pandora customer. Now Apple opens the tap also for Deezer. Spotify is still vetoed.
This means that if you are a subscriber to the streaming music platform Deezer, you can play it on your HomePod directly with Siri. With all the audio quality that this platform offers us.
Now, we can already listen to streaming music with CD quality offered by the Deezer music platform, on our HomePod, without first going through the iPhone app.
This means that if you are a Deezer subscriber, you can now interact directly with your HomePod and say “Hey Siri, play Deezer music” or “Hey Siri, play (such song)” and it will be played from the platform.
Deezer just announced today that it will be integrating with HomePod. This means that users will be able to set Deezer as their default music service on the HomePod and the new HomePod mini.
When set up, you will be able to ask the HomePod via Siri to play songs, albums, and playlists. Instead of using Apple Music, the unit will stream directly from the Deezer platform.
Deezer says the HomePod can even stream high-quality lossless music if you’re a Deezer HiFi subscriber. However, the integration doesn’t extend to Deezer podcasts or live audio content; only music from its catalog.
To avail of the new service, download the latest version of the Deezer app on your iPhone and make sure you are upgraded to iOS 14.3 or later. Deezer has around 16 million active users with a streaming library of 73 million songs. Great news, no doubt. Will Apple do the same with Spotify? Let’s hope so.
