Foldable iPhone to arrive in 2023 with 2K resolution, Kuo says. Morning of leaks about foldable phones. After leaking much of the design of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has traced the possible “date” on the arrival of the foldable iPhone: the year 2023.
Kuo reaffirms what he already said in March 2021, giving details this time about the size and screen resolution of this foldable iPhone, one of Apple’s most important moves. Said panel will not be from Samsung, but SDC and the analyst expects a large volume of units shipped for this model.
First details about Apple’s foldable iPhone
Kuo, one of the most accurate analysts in Apple territory, let slip in March that the foldable iPhone will arrive in 2023. The analyst reaffirms his position, stating that 2023 will be the year of this foldable. He tells that it will have an 8-inch panel and Quad HD+ resolution. The supplier of this panel will be SDC and it will include silver nanowire touch technology.
“Based on our latest industry research, we anticipate that Apple will likely launch a foldable iPhone with an 8-inch QHD+ flexible OLED display in 2023, with SDC as the exclusive display supplier. Based on Apple’s requested capacity plan, we predict that shipments of the foldable iPhone will reach 15-20 million units in 2023. We expect the foldable iPhone to adopt TPK’s silver nanowire touch solution.”
In other words, this silver nanowire technology will allow the screen to be folded at more than one point, thus allowing multiple folds as opposed to the single fold in the middle of the panel that we are seeing in solutions from competitors such as Samsung.
Kuo even dares with data on shipments of this foldable, expecting them to be between 15 and 20 million units. This is a considerable figure considering the type of device. On price and exact launch date there is no data, although it is expected that sometime in 2023, more than likely at the presentation event of the new iPhone, this will be the expected “One More Thing”.
