Telegram messaging client is updated to version 7.7 to add important new features including Payments 2.0 that arrive at the official APK first while the company waits for Google Play to review and approve its update, a process that now with the pandemic-induced schedule changes is longer than usual.
Telegram 7.7 boosts payments, improves the voice chat experience, adds new gestures, and improves the animations of its Android app. Below we take a closer look at each of the new features.
The most interesting features of the Telegram 7.7 update
Payments 2.0
Telegram boosts payments feature introduced in 2017 with the launch of Payments 2.0, a new API that any merchant can use and that offers eight third-party payment providers integrated into its messaging clients such as Stripe.
Scheduled voice chats
Telegram’s alternative to Clubhouse now allows you to schedule voice chats, as its beta previewed a few weeks ago. Now you can schedule a voice chat for the time and day you want. A countdown will notify all participants.
Voice chat mini-profiles
They also add exclusive mini-profiles for voice chats to make it easier for you to know who you are talking to live. You will now be able to see the name, bio, and profile picture of all participants at a glance. Plus, you can also quickly edit your profile without leaving the voice chat.
Pinch to zoom
The Android version of Telegram is also updated with new gestures. You will now be able to zoom in to photos, videos, and stickers from the conversation view without having to open the image or video first.
Improved video player
Telegram improves its video player by adding a new gesture that allows you to fast forward or rewind playback by pressing and holding the sides of the video.
New animations
Telegram also improves the animation when opening the side menu or going back to the chat list. It is now smoother and more dynamic by showing a small scroll on the background screen.
New web versions
Finally, Telegram launches two new web versions compatible with animated stickers, dark mode, folders, and more, but with a different interface, so you can use what you like the most on your mobile phone or web browser.
