Amazon Luna, Stadia’s competitor, to support 720p resolution for slower connections. A measure for users who want to enjoy cloud gaming with internet limitations.
In the gaming landscape, the cloud is a relatively new format with a handful of unfinished business. Signal lag worries many, but others are concerned that the internet connection speed requirements are somewhat prohibitive. If you’re among them, you might be interested to know that Amazon Luna is aware of the problem and is proposing an alternative: Play at 720p resolution.
“Starting today, we will enable a new 720p option, allowing a reduction in bandwidth and data consumption when streaming at a lower resolution” comment its managers from the official blog. “With this setting, customers whose internet providers restrict the data cap will be able to play at a lower resolution without sacrificing game performance. To use this option, customers can go to the Luna settings tab and select 720p – it’s that easy!”
According to the screenshots, you can expect an approximate consumption of 5GB per hour when playing in this configuration. As a reminder, Amazon Luna remains in early access status yet, so not everyone interested in this service will be able to take advantage of its features yet. Eligible users – by country availability, for example – can request an invitation from Amazon’s website.
Amazon Luna will be launched with a hundred games and support for up to 4K 60 FPS for an “introductory” cost of $5,99 per month. In its catalog, we find numerous titles from Ubisoft, one of the third-party companies most committed to this platform. They will also develop their games, unlike Stadia, which will stop doing that.
