Today we were able to learn that Apple is developing a new remote control for the next-generation Apple TV. After discovering a schematic of this future remote in the sixth beta of tvOS it turns out that the rumored new remote is actually a device designed by Universal Electronics.
Apple is bringing in a new third-party remote control for Apple TV
The truth is that the design of this remote is a very radical change to the concept of the Siri Remote that we all know. The Guide or the on/off buttons don’t seem Apple-style.
This new remote will be aimed at TV companies that sell Apple TV as the access platform to their video catalog. The original box will come with the Apple TV Remote, but Apple will add this alternative remote for these companies. Something that leaves us with doubts about the renewal of Apple TV.
For months now one of the biggest indicators of the Apple TV renewal has been the fact that Apple is working on a new remote. We assumed that the new Apple TV should come with this new remote control. Now, much of the rumors about the new Apple TV are fading.
The truth is that we are completely unaware of Apple’s plans for the Apple TV. It is possible to see a new version soon, but we have fewer clues about it. In any case, these weeks leading up to WWDC21 are crucial. We will surely see product launches, so we will be watching closely.
