Suez Canal blockade could affect PS5 and Xbox X Series. Despite the difficulties generated by the pandemic that has plagued the world since 2020, PlayStation 5 and Xbox X Series managed to debut in November of that year, but since then it has been a struggle for Sony and Microsoft to try to manufacture and distribute many consoles, albeit with below-expectation results.
Unfortunately, the outlook is still not looking good in 2021 plagued by delays and a recent event could mean yet another problem for both companies to deal with.
Suez Canal blockade could affect PS5 and Xbox X Series
The recent accident involving the huge freighter Ever Given, which ran aground in the Suez Canal, could impact the distribution of PS5 and Xbox X Series worldwide, adding to the already complicated environment for Sony and Microsoft consoles, which are dealing with shortages of chips and components needed to manufacture the hardware.
In this regard, the distribution chain of end products through the Suez Canal has been affected and this includes consoles in transit from Asia to Europe.
Likewise, given that the Suez Canal represents the movement of 10% of world trade, it is estimated that the effects of the crisis caused by the Ever Given blockade will be felt over the next few months.
As you know, the movement of goods by freighters is the standard worldwide, as air shipments are extremely expensive, and the product distribution chain follows specific schedules and estimated times to get products from the factories to the market.
What if PS5 and Xbox X Series are involved in the above? Well, it is likely to come a more critical period in terms of shortage of consoles, complicating their acquisition, since in this area there are also problems thanks to the activity of resellers.
So far, it is not known what could be the negative balance of the crisis in the Suez Canal and if this will have a strong impact on the distribution and sale of PS5 and Xbox Series X.
