iPhone 13 will bring Samsung’s LTPO displays with 120Hz and ProMotion, according to a new rumor. The iPhones arriving at the end of this coming September will soon go into production. Apple usually closes all the details six months before the launch, so right now is an excellent time for leakers and rumors from the supply chain. One such rumor comes to us from The Elec, which claims that Samsung will begin manufacturing LTPO displays shortly.
iPhone 13 will bring Samsung’s LTPO displays that open doors to several possibilities
According to the publication, Samsung is preparing to manufacture LTPO TFT OLED displays. An abbreviation that describes a screen that is manufactured with a low-temperature polycrystalline oxide and uses a thinner transistor than other alternatives on the market. According to sources at UBI Research, cited by The Elec, Samsung would start manufacturing during the first half of 2021, i.e. before June.
The company will adapt current LTPS display production lines to manufacture the panels that we will see, according to rumors, in the new iPhone 13. These LTPO displays will allow Apple to implement a refresh rate of up to 120Hz, a feature that was already rumored for the iPhone 12.
The Elec explains that these panels will be mounted on the higher-end iPhones, which can translate to those with the Pro surname. Meanwhile, LG Display will manufacture the panels with the technology that we already know and that will be destined for entry-level models such as the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini. This news fits with the rumors that we have already been hearing about the features of the future iPhone 13 and that Ming-Chi Kuo himself has collected in some of his research notes.
Recall that LTPO screens are already present in one of the company’s devices: the Apple Watch. In this case, they allow the watch to offer an always-on display, something that, according to rumors, could reach the iPhone. In any case, the range of possibilities offered by using an LTPO screen on the iPhone may bring us more than one surprise during the September event. We will see.
