Telegram is introducing Voice Chats 2.0: Channels support, unlimited users and more

Telegram is introducing Voice Chats 2.0 update with a lot of new features. 2021 has been a revolution in terms of the approach to social networks. Clubhouse enabled many users to start participating in services similar to radio.

In addition to Clubhouse, only available on iOS, we have Stereo, an alternative that can be downloaded on Android.

But we did not only see new services. Twitter launched Twitter Spaces, voice chat rooms that tried to slow down the growth of new platforms. And months earlier, in December it was Telegram that took a step forward by launching voice chats in groups, and now delves further into that strategy.

Voice Chats 2.0 update comes in Telegram

The new voice chats have no listener limit, bringing it closer to the traditional radio experience, together with improvements.

Users will be able to use them in group chats, as before, but also in channels, giving brands a new way to interact with their followers.

Of course, only administrators will be able to start these voice chats, and they will give way to people when they raise their hand to participate. To get an idea of who everyone is, the biographies of the participants’ profiles will be visible to all members.

This is how the interface looks.

Recorded chats

Another new feature is that administrators will be able to record chats to make them available to followers later, in case they missed the event. This also allows them to be released as podcasts on other platforms.

Moreover, administrators will be able to create invitation links for speakers and listeners, so after clicking they are directly integrated into the conversation. Obviously, the former will be able to listen and speak, while the latter will only be able to listen.

Finally, if we manage channels, we can join a chat with our personal profile or with the name of the channel, perfect for those who do not want to mix private and personal life.

Telegram update brings a new feature for Android users unrelated to voice chats. We will be able to choose the assigned action by swiping left in the list of chats:

  • Archive.
  • Pin.
  • Mute.
  • Delete.
  • Mark as read.
