There will be a new version of Space Invaders with augmented reality support, gamers are really excited about the upcoming mobile game. Taito had some presence during yesterday’s Square Enix Presents broadcast, the event in which Square Enix presented its news for the upcoming months. But, without a doubt, the most surprising announcement of all those related to Taito was that Space Invaders will feature a new mobile game that will make use of augmented reality technology, just like Pokémon GO does.

Space Invaders: A new mobile game with augmented reality

Unfortunately, this is all the information there is about the game, as neither its name nor its release date has been confirmed, so it seems that we will still have to wait for a while to enjoy this interesting proposal.

As the company has explained, the goal with this title is to take the iconic space shooter in a new direction, although we don’t know exactly how it will be played, since its presentation trailer doesn’t show anything concrete about the game as such.

The title is being developed in a collaboration between Taito and Square Enix Montréal. Patrick Naud, the head of Square Enix Montréal, said: “We are extremely inspired by our collaboration with TAITO to re-imagine the Space Invaders franchise in a contemporary way while shaping it to our ambitious vision of what it can be on mobile,” said Patrick Naud, Head of Studio of Square Enix Montréal “At Square Enix Montréal we are huge fans of the franchise and the team has risen to the challenge of showing how all-new technology can breathe fresh energy into a game as timeless as Space Invaders.”

Space Invaders was originally released for arcades in 1978 and automatically became one of the great classics in the history of video games, offering us the chance to wipe out hordes of aliens before they reach the bottom of the screen. Since then, it has received a multitude of revisions and new releases on countless platforms.
