WhatsApp has decided to end support for its application on iOS 9. This leaves the iconic iPhone 4S, a phone introduced in 2011, without the most popular messaging app.
WhatsApp has been abandoning some versions of iOS and Android these last months. Now, it withdraws its support for iOS 9, the ninth version of Apple‘s mobile operating system. All iPhones running iOS 9 or lower, will not be able to use the app. Until now, this was the oldest iOS version that is supported.
The oldest iPhones that can run this messaging app are the fifth-generation iPhones, i.e. the iPhone 5, 5S and 5C. The rest are left out of the latest supported version of the application.
iPhones with iOS 9 will not be able to use the WhatsApp app
There are people who still use an iPhone 4S. And it makes sense for some people because there are users who only use their phones precisely to make calls and to send WhatsApp messages.
If you are one of these users, you will need to upgrade your iPhone device to another one that runs at least iOS 10 for WhatsApp to work. Something that we do not recommend either, as WhatsApp will eventually withdraw support for this iOS version too.
There are still old models that supports Whatsapp
It is also not advisable to install older versions of the app because you will lose very important features. iPhone 4S is a smartphone that was launched in 2011. If your phone is compatible with iOS 10 and you can choose this path in order to use the application.
Fortunately, there are multiple iPhones that you can purchase to upgrade and still be able to use WhatsApp. The eleventh-generation iPhones and the new iPhone 12s are perhaps the most recommended options, although you can always go for the first- and second-generation iPhone SEs.
