Apple has released a new version of iOS, 14.4.1, to fix some important security flaws in Safari. No, it is not the version of iOS that will allow us to unlock the iPhone with the mask on. But you should download it because it fixes a major security flaw in your iPhone.
This problem resided in Safari’s WebKit, and while Apple describes it as “a memory corruption issue,” it was a problem about how this engine processed maliciously created content. In the worst situations, this form of processing can lead to malicious code being executed remotely.
Additionally, with this update, Apple has also released security and performance updates for iPad (iPad OS 14.4.1), watchOS (watchOS 7.3.2) and macOS Big Sur (Big Sur 11.2.3). It is important that you update all your devices, especially your iPhone.
iOS 14.4.1 will improve the security of your iPhone
The error code called CVE-2021-1844 could ultimately lead to the execution of malware on our phones. It was discovered by Clément Lecigne of Google’s Threat Analysis Group together with Alison Huffman of Microsoft Browser Vulnerability Research. It does not change any essential part of the operating system.
In fact, this is a typical update that improves performance and fixes bugs. The same goes for the iPad, Apple Watch, and macOS Big Sur, which receive this update to improve their stability and security.
To download the update on your iPhone, simply go to the device settings, to the “General” section, and click on “Software Update”. It is important to have at least 50% battery before performing the process.
A few days ago, a leaker announced that on March 23 Apple will unveil a good number of devices. Among those devices were the new AirTags and the new AirPods.
The release of this version of the operating system, iOS 14.4.1, shows that we are getting closer to the launch of 14.5, which among other improvements, will allow us to unlock our iPhone with a face mask. We will find out soon when the company announces its intentions in case there is an event planned.
