Facebook has announced the relaunch of the Lite version of Instagram, ideal for devices without many resources.
An Instagram that only takes up 2MB, but has no Reels
It is an app that occupies only 2MB but can offer much of what the original offers, including uploading content and viewing the feed of contacts.
In their presentation, they indicate that this new Android application has been specially created for those living in rural and remote communities, who need to consume a minimum of data.
The app is being rolled out in over 170 countries and requires only 2MB to download on Android, considerably less than the full-size version, which is closer to 30MB. They have built on Facebook Lite, another creation that debuted a few years ago, by offloading much of the app code that runs on the phone to the cloud.
The team focused on video and messaging, and to make performance good, they removed much of the ornate, data-rich animation, such as the cube transitions and AR filters that people can apply to faces.
GIFs and stickers have been retained, though, and a “dark mode” option has been included, which replaces the bright white background with a black one and gray text.
Although it will be in 170 countries during the first phase, and they promise that soon they will bring it to the whole world. You will be able to download it on Google Play during the next few days, as it is being offered little by little.
