If you like a YouTube video a lot, you might want to watch it again and again, over and over again. In the Android app, this can be done for now with a little trick: playlists can be looped, but not individual videos.
This trick won’t be necessary for much longer if the little novelty they’ve discovered on XDA succeeds. YouTube will let you play a video in a loop without the need to put it in a playlist first.
Youtube let you watch the same video until you get bored
The text strings found inside version 16.09.34 of YouTube for Android don’t leave too much to the imagination. One of them talks about “Loop the video”, with other text indicating that looping playback is either on or off. Apparently, after turning looping playback on you’ll be able to quickly turn it off from a snack bar (a message that appears and disappears after a few seconds).
The name of these text strings seems to indicate that it will be a menu rather than a button, so the option will probably become part of the increasingly extensive context menu that appears when you press ⋮.
This small novelty will allow us to play a video in a loop until further notice, something that until now was available only for playlists, but not for individual videos. The trick to achieving this with a particular video was therefore to put it into a playlist first. This step should not be necessary for the future, as long as the novelty eventually sees the light of day, something that is never guaranteed.
