WhatsApp reduces the “self-destruct” time for messages from 7 days to 24 hours.
WhatsApp is already testing messages that disappear within 24 hours
Despite the controversy generated by its new privacy policy, WhatsApp is still one of the most used Android applications in the world and if it wants to maintain that privileged position it is well aware that it needs to include more and better features to match its main competitor, Telegram, and one of the latest it is testing are messages that self-destruct in 24 hours.
The messaging client wants to give users more control over their messages
As we can read, echoing information published by the specialized media WABetainfo on its official Twitter account, WhatsApp would be testing a new feature that will allow us to have more control over our messages.
After including calls and video calls in the desktop version, now the instant messaging client owned by Facebook wants to incorporate messages that self-destruct after one day.
It should be recalled that WhatsApp has already had self-destructing messages enabled since late last year, but this feature sets 7 days for a message to be deleted, and, now, the messaging app wants to reduce that period to just 24 hours.
Although there is no certainty that this functionality will ever be implemented, it may be a clear maneuver to avoid losing users to Telegram, which has already had this feature for some time, called secret chats, and which has more customization than WhatsApp, because it allows you to select the time after which a message will be destroyed, starting with just 1 second.
Be that as it may, from May 15, 2021, which is the day on which the new WhatsApp terms of use come into force, we will be able to see if the messaging client maintains its bulk of active users or if, on the contrary, there is massive migration to Telegram.
