Twitter is developing a new safety tool that will protect users from abusive accounts. This feature, which will be available to everyone, will automatically block all accounts that violate Twitter’s policies.

New tool to combat abuse on Twitter

Twitter has different dynamics focused on protecting users from trolls and abusive accounts. Some are implemented from its algorithms and others are available for users to use manually to block or report tweets and profiles.

However, these dynamics have not been enough to curb abuse and spam on the platform. Along these lines, the Twitter team is working on a new tool that promises to automatically block all abusive accounts that violate the platform’s policies. While Twitter did not give many details about its dynamics, it shared some screenshots that show how it could work.

For example, when the user activates this “Safety Mode” Twitter will give a plus of protection since when it detects an account that generates spam or its tweets show some kind of abuse, it will prevent it from interacting with that profile for about 7 days. That is, it will “mute” these accounts for a certain time.

So it will prevent the user from having to deal with abusive tweets or insults, as they will directly not reach his profile. On the other hand, this tool will show you the measures it has taken, so the user will see the accounts that have been detected and blocked for being abusive or generating spam.

From there, he will be able to take other measures to protect himself definitively, for example, blocking these accounts from the profile options. Twitter has not mentioned when they will implement this feature on the platform or if they are already doing some kind of test to check its effectiveness.

So we will have to wait until Twitter provides more details about this extra “Safety Mode” it is preparing to combat spam and abuse on the platform.
