Google will be adding new features to Meet and Classroom to help educators who use the service, these features will surely benefit students who take online classes during the pandemic.
More dedicated moderation features will be added in the upcoming months to help teachers manage their online classes.
Google to add new features to Meet and Classroom
Some of the new features that Google Meet will bring will allow teachers to keep control of classes. For example, one of the tools will allow all participants to be muted during a meeting in order to prevent interruptions.
This option can have multiple purposes, for example, it can be used when there are some discussions between students. Or it can be used when several students are joking around. It will also help to avoid awkward situations. In this case, only the host of the meeting will be able to use this option, which will be available only from the web version of Google Meet.
In this case, the teacher will not be able to reverse the action, and only the students will be able to activate their microphones again. On the other hand, if they want to prevent that from happening, then they can apply another tool that gives the possibility to control when students can activate the sound or not.
A new option will also be added for teachers to make sure that their students do not stay in the chat rooms after the class is over. This option will allow them to end the call for all attendees.
Of course, all these options will depend on the teachers’ criteria or the type of class they are developing. A discussion environment is not the same as a lecture class. In any case, Google Meet will offer a range of options to cover different scenarios. And to complement all the new features of Meet, Google is announcing integration with Classroom too.
