Is it necessary to make a backup before replacing the cell phone battery?
The battery in our smartphones is one of the most sensitive hardware elements. Many elements can influence its useful life, although if we are going to be a long time with our terminal, all of them will sooner or later need a replacement. The great doubt of many users and that plagues the specialized forums, is to know whether or not it is necessary to make a backup when changing the battery.
A few years ago, replacing the battery was as simple as buying a new one and replacing the old one by removing the back cover. Since this option has become a somewhat testimonial one and limited to only a few entry-level handsets, changing the battery is generally reserved for specialized technicians. This involves opening the phone and disconnecting many internal elements, something that was not necessary before, with a much less incisive replacement. Therefore, there was less chance of damaging other hardware components during the process.
Backup is not necessary but recommended
This, like any visit to the Service Center, raises the question of whether it is necessary to make a backup before having the damaged battery replaced. The answer from a technical point of view is no. There is nothing in the battery replacement process (as long as it is done correctly) that will erase our data and therefore, we will lose all our personal content including photos, videos, or installed apps.
However, the professional technicians consulted by this media, do recommend or advise, to make a backup before sending the phone to charge the battery. This means that if everything on your phone is important, you should make a backup, even if, in principle, your phone’s memory is not going to be restored. If what you have on your phone is not relevant or you have little information, you may be able to skip this step.
Most technical services cover hardware damage that may occur during the repair. That is, if by chance, the internal memory module is damaged during the battery replacement, the center can provide us with another module for free, but the data contained in the old one could be lost forever. This is the main answer to the fact that it is not strictly necessary, but it is advisable to make a backup copy of our data before any repair, whatever the nature of the repair, even before an innocent battery replacement.
