Qualcomm announces its Snapdragon 678 SoC, a 2018 Snapdragon 675 with overclock.
Qualcomm today announced a “new” SoC for mobile devices. We say “new” because we are basically looking at a Snapdragon 675 launched in 2018 with a little face-lift that translates into overclocking.
Snapdragon 678 SoC specs
At the CPU level, the only difference is that the 8x Kryo 460 cores arrive overclocked at a frequency of 2.20 GHz as opposed to 2.00 GHz in the original model while maintaining the 11nm LPP manufacturing process. The graphics are also the same. It has Adreno 612, although the company indicates a “performance increase”, so it is to be expected that they have also overclocked at their frequencies.
The company also indicates better camera quality, and the reasons include the use of the ISP Spectra 250L, although it’s the same one that integrates the original SoC. And if they also highlight a “quality connection” with the Snapdragon X12 modem for a 4G @ 600/150Mbps download and upload, which is the same modem that accompanies the SoC already launched in 2018. So we are really looking at a SoC identical to the one that is overclocked on the CPU and GPU level.
The rest of the Snapdragon 678’s information is completed with support for Quick Charge 4+, is ready to support a dual rear camera configuration of up to 16MP (or a single48 MP sensor), the AI Engine NPU for Artificial Intelligence, and integrates 4G LTE Cat.12 connectivity (600Mbps), Bluetooth 5.0, WiFi 802.11ac with 2×2 MIMO.
