Microsoft is working on a new password manager that can sync credentials in Edge browser, Google Chrome, iOS and Android mobile devices. The preview version of this password manager is now integrated into Microsoft Authenticator, a free mobile app, with which you can authenticate using your mobile device into services and web pages.
Just like other password managers, the new password manager of Microsoft can autofill passwords in apps or web sites on iOS and Android. It syncs the passwords from Microsoft Edge browser and you can share these passwords acrosss multiple devices by using a Microsoft account.
Microsoft also prepared an Autofill extension, so you can sync all the passwords that are stored on your Microsoft account to Google Chrome.
Some time ago, rumors stated that Microsoft would create a password manager for its Microsoft 365 consumer service, but this did not happen. Instead we have a password manager for its browser and having it also compatible with Chrome is a really great thing as well.
The new autofill feature is at the preview stage right now and can be used in Microsoft Authenticator. If you would like to use it on your mobile device, you’ll need to activate it as the default autofill provider in iOS and Android settings.
Let us remind you that Autofill only works with Microsoft accounts and also if you are an enterprise user, it won’t work for you. If you are a business user, you need to join an allow list to enable this feature for Microsoft Authenticator users.
