The mystery of the monolith has been solved and then disappeared. As if this year was not being science fiction enough, a month ago, news went around the world showing that we had not yet reached the highest point of how rare and strange 2020 can be.

The mystery of the monolith: Everything happens in two weeks time

The news referred to a strange metal monolith about three meters high that appeared by surprise in the middle of the Utah desert. It has been discovered by guards of the national park who were flying in a helicopter. But this was not the strangest thing, because two weeks after it appeared, it disappeared without a trace to appear in Romania, where it also spent two weeks to disappear and appear in California, where it also vanished.

Of course, this series of events gave rise to the craziest theories that internet is capable of creating. And while some attributed them to the extraterrestrial presence in our world, others related it to a marketing campaign. And the truth is, they weren’t that far off track.

As published by The New York Times, the authors of this “work of art” have made themselves known through Instagram in a profile called The Most Famous Artist, in which they have published the process of assembly and placement of these monoliths, which they have also taken advantage of to sell for $45,000 the piece. When users asked them in the now private account if they had been responsible for this paranormal event, they answered without hesitation: If you mean us, yes.
