Apple Family Sharing for third-party apps are now available and with it, you can share for up to six members your purchases, location, iCloud space, etc.
As announced at WWDC20, we will now also be able to share individual subscriptions we have in third-party apps with Family Sharing.
One subscription for six people
Until now, when an application offered a subscription, it was related to the user’s Apple ID and no one else in the family could benefit from it. Now, with the advent of shared family subscriptions, the landscape has changed dramatically.
Let’s remember that it is the developers who has access to App Connect and can activate the possibility of sharing a subscription. Once this is done, we can activate the corresponding option, so that other family members can access the subscription.
How to use Apple Family Sharing with third-party apps?
- Open the Settings app on iPhone or iPad.
- Go to Subscriptions.
- Touch the subscription you want to share.
- Activate Family Sharing.
It’s that easy. If you also want to automatically share all the new subscriptions you can set this option at the thirs step, you just activate Share new subscriptions, that’s all.
To enjoy this feature you must use iOS 14.2, iPadOS 14.2 and MacOS Big Sur 11.0.1. The feature is also present in the third beta of iOS/iPadOS 14.3.
This is undoubtedly a very interesting change that, at some point, will be accompanied by the possibility of sharing In-app purchases, which was also announced at the WWDC20. For now, Apple has taken the first step with subscriptions, a step that will allow us to get much more out of the services, without a doubt.
