Samsung patents a ring that can charge smartphones. The South Korean giant has expanded its patent portfolio with a very interesting concept, a very special ring that allows us to charge the battery of our smartphone. It will work with devices compatible with wireless charging technology.

  • Samsung will present new Galaxy Buds with Galaxy S21
  • Samsung NEON: Human AI project for smartphones
  • Samsung will allow you to unlock your phone with Bixby Voice

We all use smartphones on a daily basis, charging is sometimes a big problem if you are travelling a lot.  It is true that part of this problem has been solved with external batteries, also known as “power banks”, which is a relatively large accessory, plus you need to charge it daily.

With all this in mind, it is much easier to understand Samsung’ project. A ring that would allow us to charge the battery of a mobile device would be a revolutionary accessory.

According to the patent published by Samsung, this ring will not integrate a circular battery inside but it will have a magnetic disk with a small generator that is able to transform kinetic and thermal energy (the movements of the hand and the heat of the body) into electric energy.

That ring will be self-sufficient, that is, we will not be worried about charging the ring. We will ensure that it is always ready to function properly, only by wearing it constantly

As expected, all the electrical energy generated through heat and movement will be stored in a small integrated battery, but how can we use it to charge our smartphone? Well, very simply, the ring will be activated automatically and will start to recharge our smartphone wirelessly while we are using it. For example, when we hold it in the hand where we have the ring to make a call. This system will be activated in an intelligent way, without having to perform any special action, at least in theory.

Samsung patents a ring that can charge smartphones. Of course, this will only work with smartphones that are equipped with a wireless charging system. The idea raised by Samsung is very interesting, but at the moment it is only a concept on paper.
