How to improve the sound of AirPods or Beats on our iPhone? In iOS 14 Apple introduced several improvements focused on accessibility. One of them is the possibility of customizing the audio of AirPods or Beats connected to our iPhone or iPad to our taste or needs. Thanks to this system we can adjust some values that will make us more comfortable listening.

Thanks to the accessibility settings of the AirPods we can configure some values manually, but the best thing is to use the built-in assistant that offers us some comparisons between different audios and asks us to choose the one that sounds best. At the end of the process, we will improve the sound of our AirPods or Beats. The function is compatible with EarPods (with headphone jack or 3.5 mm lightning connector), 2nd generation AirPods, AirPods Pro, Powerbeats, Powerbeats Pro and Beats Solo Pro.

Before we start, let’s make sure to connect the headphones to the iPhone or iPad. Then follow the steps:

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Go to Accessibility.
  3. We go into Audio/Visual.
  4. Tap on Settings for Headset.
  5. Activate Headset Settings.
  6. Click on Custom Audio Settings.

Once you are in, the system asks us several questions. In the first one, it plays a conversation at a quite low volume and asks us if we can detect people talking, to which we have to answer. Then it plays music and gives us a choice between two equalization options, a question that is repeated twice.

As indicated by the system, if both songs sound equally good we must choose the first option, the default. Once the process is finished, the system memorizes our choices and activates the equalization of the content. Depending on the case, if we answer that the default audio option is the one we hear best, the system will alert us and will automatically deactivate the customized audio configuration.

Please note that the frequency setting works only in music, movies, and calls. A feature that is undoubtedly very useful for people with some hearing difficulty or who simply have a slightly different taste in how the sound in their headset should sound. This way you’ve learned how to improve the sound of AirPods or Beats on our iPhone.
