No one escapes the fact that making Android apps work on Windows 10 has been on Microsoft agenda for some time now, even more so since Apple began working to make iOS apps work on MacOS, something we can already start seeing on Big Sur and the first Macs with the Apple M1. And yes, it is clear that this is not the same case, because in the case of Apple both operating systems (MacOS and iOS) and the devices on which they are used are exclusively theirs, but still very interesting.
In this post-PC era, the PC is still quite alive, but another interesting trend is the convergence of mobile and desktop platforms. The proliferation of services (and the combination of services, apps and applications) makes it easier every day to carry out the same tasks on different devices. Being able to bring the exclusive apps of one platform to the desktop of another is, without a doubt, a great advance in that sense.
Microsoft’s spearhead for the use of Android apps in Windows is, of course, Your Phone, an application designed to establish a link between PC and smartphone that allows, mainly, access to the phone’s functions from the computer. Almost a year ago it became possible to make calls with the cell phone from the PC, and a few months ago the deployment of the function to use Android apps in Windows 10 began, and shortly after that its expansion accelerated, which today already covers a large part of Samsung’s smartphone catalog.
However, and obviously, not only Samsung manufactures smartphones with Google’s operating system, so many users are still waiting for this feature to stop being exclusive to the Korean manufacturer’s phones, in order to use their Android apps on Windows 10. This could be close, if the information from Windows Central is confirmed, which states that those in Redmond are working on it, that the level of development of the project is advanced and that, consequently, using Android apps on Windows 10 could be a reality for many more users sometime in 2021.

Obviously, Microsoft wants to reach this point quickly, and in this respect the experience gained in recent months thanks to its collaboration with Samsung is undoubtedly very valuable. The fact is that it will be in 2021 when the number of Apple computers capable of running iOS apps begins to grow substantially, so those in Redmond are not at all interested in being late at this point. So, although there is no confirmation of what we can read in this news, everything points to 2021 being the year of Android apps on Windows 10, to the delight of users of both platforms.
