Radeon RX 6700 (PS5 GPU) is coming to PC soon, here is specs, price and release date of this graphics card series. This is not the first time we talk about the Radeon RX 6700, a mid-range graphics card based on the Navi 22 core that, as we saw at the time, is almost a direct equivalent of the GPU that PS5 mounts. I say almost because, unlike the solution that integrates the new generation console from Sony, this model will have lower bandwidth and could work at more contained working frequencies.
- New world record from Radeon RX 6800 XT with liquid nitrogen
- AMD Radeon RX 6700 will arrive with 12GB GDDR6 VRAM
- Radeon RX 6800 and 6800 XT tests show NVIDIA has a more advanced architecture
These two reasons mean that we cannot establish a direct and absolute equivalence, but the graphic core, with all its elements, will be identical. This means that the Radeon RX 6700 will have a total of 36 active computer units and in addition to 2,304 shaders, the same as the Sony console. Both the texturing and raster units will be at the same level, but it will have a 192-bit bus instead of a 256-bit bus.
For you to compare directly I leave a list of the official specifications of the PS5 GPU and the features of the Radeon RX 6700 and RX 6700 XT, an improved version with more active CUs that will be above the graphic solution of that console in terms of raw power.
PS5 GPU specs
- Semi-customized RDNA 2 architecture (would not integrate all key functions).
- 2,304 shaders at 2.29GHz (dynamic frequency, maximum peak).
- 144 textured ray tracing units.
- 40 units for ray tracing.
- 64 units for rasterizing.
- 256 bits bus.
- 16GB GDDR6 memory at 14GHz, which leaves us a bandwidth of 448GB/s.
Radeon RX 6700 XT specs
- Navi 22 graphic core in 7 nm.
- 40 active CUs with 2,560 shaders
- The unspecified working frequency should be around 2GHz.
- 160 texturing units.
- 40 units for ray tracing.
- 64 units for rasterizing.
- 192 bits bus.
- 12GB GDDR6 memory at 14GHz.
- TDP between 186 and 211 watts.
Radeon RX 6700 specs
- Navi 22 graphic core in 7 nm (RDNA 2 architecture).
- 36 active CUs with 2.304 shaders.
- The unspecified working frequency should also be around 2GHz.
- 144 textured units.
- 36 units for ray tracing.
- 64 units for rasterizing.
- 192 bits bus.
- 8GB GDDR6 memory at 14GHz.
- TDP between 156 and 146 watts.
Radeon RX 6700 XT and 6700 release date
AMD has already released the Radeon RX 6800 and RX 6800 XT, and plans to do the same with the Radeon RX 6900 XT in December. All this new generation is based on the RDNA 2 architecture, and the Radeon RX 6700 and 6700 XT are not going to be an exception, but their arrival will not take place until January 2021, at least according to the latest information.
If you wonder why these new graphics cards are so interesting, the answer is simple, because they represent the arrival of the PS5 GPU, with the nuances that we have indicated, to the world of the PC. Xbox Series X does not have a direct equivalent, but it would be something halfway between the Radeon RX 6700 XT and the Radeon RX 6800.
We still do not have official information about the price, and we do not know its performance, but if we start from the values we have seen in the Radeon RX 6800 and extrapolate them to the specifications of the Radeon RX 6700 XT and RX 6700, I think we can conclude that both will compete directly within the medium range. The first one could be, more or less, at the level of an RTX 2070, while the second one should offer a performance similar to that of an RTX 2060.
Radeon RX 6700 XT and 6700 price
Radeon RX 6700 (PS5 GPU) is coming to PC soon. Keep in mind that the values we have given are estimates and that they could change slightly, either for the better (more performance) or for the worse (less performance). The price of the Radeon RX 6700 XT and RX 6700 should be around $299-279 and $219-199, respectively.
