YouTube will run ads on videos of non-partner channels without paying them. YouTube has just announced an update to the platform’s Terms of Service, and one of the changes it has introduced will not please either the small creators or their audience. From now on, Google will run ads on videos of channels outside the YouTube Partner Program (YPP).
- Opera adds Spotify, YouTube and Apple Music to its sidebar
- iPhone 12 now supports 4K videos in HDR on YouTube
- YouTube brings changes with a new update
This means that, without asking the creators, YouTube can now place ads on their videos, something they couldn’t do voluntarily until now because they didn’t belong to the YPP. However, this, which could be seen as good news for them, is not, as YouTube and Google are not going to pay these little creators for the corresponding amounts they collect.
A measure that takes away from the value of the videos, without contributing anything
Prior to the update of the Terms of Service, YouTube only inserted advertisements in an extraordinary way in those channels that were not part of the YPP. Now, that has changed, but instead of making it easier for creators to earn income, the measure makes it less attractive to watch videos that previously didn’t contain ads, since now you have to wait the length of time that the ads last before watching them.
YouTube will run ads on videos of non-partner channels. For the moment, moreover, to be able to participate in the monetization program it is necessary to achieve the same objectives as before and to be able to meet the same requirements: to live in a country where the program is active, to have more than 4,000 hours of viewing in the last 12 months, and to have more than 1,000 subscribers.
