Apple does not escape the industry trends. They have been inspired like the rest of the brands when a trend has appeared on the horizon in the search for new products that encourage sales. We have seen this when it comes to increasing the screen size of their iPhones, accelerating the arrival of 5G or marketing “mini” versions with lower prices.
Now it is a matter of taking a step further because we are talking about smartphones with different form factors. The idea of Apple when they are inspired by other brands is “others have done it first, but we will do it better” as always.
Apple tests the prototypes of the foldable iPhone. Rumors of this type of smartphone began to emerge in 2017. It was published on the U.S. Patent and Trademark website, USPTO. The date of publication did not seem to be a coincidence, as it occurred three days before Samsung introduced the first large foldable device of this generation: the first Galaxy Fold.
Everything points to the fact that Apple has advanced quite a bit in the last three years and from China (where all the iPhones are assembled) comes new information that points to a launch in September 2022.
The tests are focusing on the hinge and the screen, key points in these foldable smartphones that have given problems to other manufacturers in the first commercial versions. Apple wants a device that can withstand 100,000 folds/deployments and they want OLED or micro-LED screens on that device.
Apple tests the prototypes of the foldable iPhone. It is not possible to know how the first foldable iPhone will be, but from what we know so far points out the design of the Galaxy Z Flip, the Motorola Razr or the Microsoft Surface Duo.
