According to the first testers of Xbox Series X, the console might have an overheating problem.
Everybody agrees that the Xbox Series X is very quiet and small. But several journalists attest the Xbox Series X an enormous heat development. A French reviewer goes so far as to say that you could probably heat your room in winter with the Xbox Series X.
Another reviewer from Giant Bomb, allegedly almost burned his hand when he tried to pull the external memory stick out of the console. However, the journalist in question has since corrected these statements, which have probably been taken out of context by many magazines:
Getting a lot of chatter regarding Series X heat. On Beastcast I said it was "toasty" and that's exactly what it was
I've read stories that are using the Beastcast segment to support claims the Series X has a "heat problem" and I would disagree w/ making that assumption

Xbox Series X overheating problem: Microsoft remains silent
But it should also be considered: The first testers still received pre-series models of the Xbox Series X. So there may still be differences in the final consoles. However, one circumstance raises concerns: The testers could only try out games via backward compatibility. Native games for the Xbox Series X are not yet available. But they should make even greater use of the console. How the heat development could be, one can only speculate.
In the end, Microsoft must have looked for the right compromise between volume and temperature for the Xbox Series X. There is a large 130 mm fan on the top, which draws warm air out of the case. It now remains to be seen whether the console warms up in the normal range or whether there are concerns here. Microsoft itself has not yet commented on the critical reports.
