Sony is going to launch its new smartphone Xperia 2, even they recently announced they won’t be attending MWC 2020 that will held in Barcelona between 24-27 February.

The Sony Xperia 2 may have been one of the biggest phones at the MWC 2020 event, but Sony’s withdrawal from the event due to coronavirus epidemic has raised concerns that the phone will not be released. But the company confirmed that the launch will take place whether they join the show or not.

How will Sony introduce Xperia 2 without attending MWC?

Sony announced that they will not host a physical event within the MWC 2020, but they also added that they will hold an online launch. So that a live announcement will likely take place on the company’s YouTube channel for the new phone.

Some companies, including LG, NVIDIA, Amazon and Ericsson have announced that they will not attend the Mobile World Congress (MWC 2020).

The headquarters of many phone manufactureres are located in China, where the disease occurred. These companies have announced that they will either direct their employees in other regions such as Europe to the event or they will not participate.

We are still two weeks away from the event and it is uncertain whether more companies will leave.

The expected featured of the Sony Xperia 2

Leakers though the new phone was going to be Sony Xperia 5 Plus before, but apparently Sony has changed its mind. The new flagship will feature front-facing stereo speakers and a 6.6-inch sized OLED display. On the back it will have a three-lens camera config with an additional ToF sensor. There will also be 18W fast charger and 4,000mAh battery in Xperia 2.

The camera will have a periscope configuration of 12MP 1/1.5 inch, 64MP 1/1.7 inch, 12MP 1/3.4 inch and 2MP ToF sensor. Rumours say that the Xperia 2 will have OIS (optical image stabilization) feature.

Other estimates include the Snapdragon 855 processor and 6 GB of memory.
