Even though the end of support is announced for Windows 7, Microsoft will release a free update to patch a bug that was created by the very last update for the old OS.
Why did Microsoft release an update after announcing end of support?
The latest update for Windows 7 contains a display bug. Microsoft promises to eliminate it with a new patch. Microsoft is definitely unlucky with its Windows updates, which are often the source of new bugs. It’s Windows 7’s turn to be the victim of a problem after applying the latest patch (KB4534310), released on January 14.
Many users have found that their wallpaper has disappeared, replaced by a black image. This bug occurs when you select a wallpaper and you want the image to be stretched so that it occupies the entire screen.
However, the update KB4534310 marks the end of support for Windows 7 and Microsoft has announced that they will not publish any more patches, except for certain companies that will keep getting support by paying to Microsoft.
But Microsoft was forced to back off and committed to correcting the bug and, therefore, to publishing a new update. The company has not given a date but the patch may be published during the next Patch Tuesday, on February 11.
In the meantime, Microsoft indicates that it is possible to work around the problem by choosing another display mode for the image (Fit, Tile, Center, Fill), or by taking an image whose size is identical to the definition of the screen.
