- Brazil used to sell the most expensive iPhone in the world for a long time.
- According to data by Nukeni, the world’s most expensive iPhone 14 is now available in Turkey.
- Each nation has different prices depending on its local taxes and currency.
- In Japan, the 128GB iPhone 14 is available for the next-highest price of $831.29.
- Following its announcements yesterday, Apple quietly raised the price of its products in a number of European countries.
For many years, the most expensive iPhone in the world was sold in Brazil. The iPhone 12, iPhone 13, and even the third-generation iPhone SE all experienced this. But this time, the top spot in the rating has gone to a different nation. The world’s most expensive iPhone 14, according to research by Nukeni, is now available in Turkey.
The cheapest iPhone 14 costs $1700 in Turkey
Each year, Nukeni changes its rankings based on the cost of an iPhone as seen on the respective country’s Apple website. Prices in each country vary based on local taxes and the local currency. Brazil typically appears at the top of the list, but iPhone 14 wants to change that.
Below you can see the price comparison of the iPhone 14 series between Turkey and the US (shared by iPhonedo on Twitter):
Due to the fact that municipal taxes in the US and Canada vary by state (and some states don’t even have them), the research takes into account two different pricing for each country. With all of that in mind, Turkey is now, at least formally, the country where the iPhone 14 is the most expensive.
The 128GB model of the iPhone 14 Pro costs $2,193.15 there as an example. The second place goes to Brazil with the same item costing $1,823.19. The US and Japan are the most affordable countries to purchase an iPhone 14 Pro, with prices of $999 (excluding local taxes) and $1,039.46, respectively. India, Hungary, and Poland are additional nations where purchasing a new iPhone 14 is quite expensive.
The scenario is not significantly different for the iPhone 14 base model, which costs $829 in the US (considering SIM-free pricing). The next-highest price for the 128GB iPhone 14 is $831.29 in Japan. The same equipment costs $1,699.68 in Turkey, which is more than twice as much as in the US, and Turkey once more tops the list.
What caused iPhone 14 prices to rise in Turkey?
As previously said, a variety of factors influence the cost of Apple products globally. With an inflation rate that has surpassed 80% for the first time in more than 20 years, Turkey has been experiencing a serious economic crisis.
Apple halted product sales in Turkey in 2021 as a result of the local currency there losing 15% of its value against the dollar in a matter of hours. When sales in Turkey started up again, Apple raised the cost of its goods by 25%. The country’s App Store prices and subscription costs have grown as a result of the local currency’s devaluation.
Of course, Turkey isn’t the only place in the globe where inflation is a problem. After making its statements yesterday, Apple quietly increased the cost of its devices in several European nations. For instance, the third-generation iPhone SE increased in price in the UK from £419 to £449.
Due to internal and external factors, including the conflict in Ukraine, both the euro and the pound have been losing value. As a result, businesses like Apple have had to raise their prices to make up for the declining worth of the currencies.
