April 8th: Fritzbox 7580 gets Fritz! OS 7.25
On March 24th, AVM provided the Fritzbox 7580 with the preparatory laboratory for upgrading to Fritz! OS 7.25. Now the router manufacturer is officially rolling out the new firmware. With the update, over 70 new functions and various optimizations land on the device. This includes, among other things, the prioritization of devices in the home office, expanded control functions for parents, new telephone features and functions for the smart home. A list of other highlights can be found in this message:
April 7th: Laboratory for Fritzbox 7490
The Fritzbox 7490 has been around for a few years, but it is still in many households. Owners of the router can now install a new update from the Fritz laboratory. It has the version number 07.24-87448 and is a preparation for the big upgrade to Fritz! OS 7.25. In terms of content, it only brings a few detailed corrections that could affect the operation of the system.
March 24th: Fritzbox 7530 AX, 7580 and 7560 with a new laboratory
About two weeks ago the Fritzbox 7530 received the update to Fritz! OS 7.25. Now at least a new laboratory is available for the Fritzbox 7530 AX, as well as for the models 7580 and 7560. The three routers have not yet received the official new software, but are about to do so with the current laboratory.
The laboratory versions for the models have the version numbers 07.24-87165 (7530 AX), 07.24-87216 (7580) and 07.24-87215 (7560). In terms of content, however, the versions hardly differ. With all laboratories, AVM delivers one thing above all else: more stability for the system. With the Fritzbox 7530 AX, the manufacturer has also improved the interoperability with some WLAN clients.
The innovations in the current FritzOS
With the Fritz! OS 7.2x, AVM is delivering numerous new functions and optimizations for its Fritz devices. These should not only increase the performance of the Fritzboxes, but also improve WLAN connections from mobile devices, enable faster and more stable connections via VPN networks and ensure more security in the home network. Overall, AVM is introducing innovations in all core areas such as the Internet, telephony, smart home and home network.

Fritz-Labor: That has to be considered
If an update comes from the Fritz Laboratory, different conditions apply compared to the official updates. Because with the laboratory firmware, AVM is testing new functions that will later become part of the large, official firmware update at the end of August or beginning of September. It is therefore beta. The manufacturer also points out that problems can arise when operating the software.
Users can try out a Fritz laboratory if the current FritzOS is installed on their Fritzbox. Before installing the software, the data and settings on the router should be backed up to be on the safe side. Once this is done, users can download the laboratory firmware in the Fritz laboratory on the AVM website download it and save it as a ZIP file on your computer. After unzipping the file, the following steps are necessary for installation:
- Call up the Fritzbox interface in the browser with http://fritz.box and, if necessary, enter the password for your Fritzbox
- At the bottom of the menu you will find the footer “View: Advanced”, which you have to activate
- You will now find the “FritzOS file” tab under “System / Update”
- In the input field, select the path to the previously downloaded and unzipped ZIP file and click on “Start update”
If laboratory firmware is already installed on the Fritzbox, a new update is offered automatically. Note that the update process can take a few minutes. During this time, the router’s info lamp flashes. When the update is complete, the Fritzbox restarts automatically. Data and settings are not lost so that the router is ready for use again as usual.
