AVM brings improved Fritzbox 7590 with Wifi 6 on the market

For a long time, the Fritzbox 7590 was the top model among the (V) DSL routers from AVM. Now the device is getting an upgrade. The new Fritzbox 7590 AX supports Wifi 6 and thus enables significantly faster WLAN connections.

There is no visual difference between the Fritzbox 7590 and the Fritzbox 7590 AX. Both routers have the flat design and the familiar housing made of white, gray and red plastic. Inside the new model, however, AVM has made improvements. The Fritzbox 7590 AX allows wireless data transfer rates of up to 2400 Mbit / s at 5 GHz and 1200 Mbit / s at 2.4 GHz via Wifi 6. The original model, however, managed “only” 1733 and 800 Mbit / s.

The advantages of Wifi 6 with the Fritzbox 7590 AX

Wifi 6, or Wifi 802.11ax, is the latest generation of WLAN. It is supported by more and more routers and end devices such as smartphones. AVM also subsequently brought a model with Wifi 6 of the Fritzbox 7530 onto the market. Now the manufacturer is proceeding in a similar way with the Fritzbox 7590. Thanks to Wifi 6, the Fritzbox 7590 AX not only increases the data throughput for WLAN connections many times over, the router can also make better use of the radio channels. In addition, Wifi 6 ensures better network stability and is backwards compatible with earlier WLAN standards.

If there are still four dual-band antennas in the original Fritzbox 7590, there are now a total of eight in the Fritzbox 7590 AX. In conjunction with WiFi Mesh, the new Fritzbox 7590 AX is therefore ideally suited as a home control center, for parallel 4K streams and, thanks to lower latency, as a basis for online gaming.

Apart from these innovations, the new router from AVM is very similar to its predecessor. Both support VDSL supervectoring and thus allow maximum internet speeds of up to 300 Mbit / s. They also have identical connections such as four Gigabit LAN ports, one Gigabit WAN port, two USB 3.0 connections, and an integrated telephone system for DECT, IP, ISDN and analog telephones. The Fritzbox 7590 AX comes with the current Fritz! OS and offers numerous setting options for users. Among other things, you can set up a guest WLAN and child protection, as well as your home network via apps such as myFritz! manage.

    Price and availability

As AVM announced, the Fritzbox 7590 will be available in stores from the end of May. The recommended retail price is 269 euros. It is therefore identical to the one that AVM set for the original model at the market launch in 2017. The manufacturer’s guarantee for the box is a total of five years.
