While Instagram professionals may not find out all that new from the following tips, many of the functions mentioned are probably not known to the majority of users of the free online service for sharing photos and videos. The following 9 recommendations can help you get more out of your Instagram profile.
Since it was launched in 2012, Instagram has become one of the most popular platforms for sharing pictures and short stories. The network already has over a billion users worldwide. Some users are so prominent and successful on Instagram that they really earn money from it. But even those who are just getting started in the network can impress their followers with the following Instagram tips.
1. Customize the cover picture of a video
The first impression doesn’t have a second chance – an old truism that also applies to the digital world. One of our Instagram tips is therefore to adapt the cover picture: To upload a new post, click on the “+” in the middle below. Then select the video you want to upload from the library. Alternatively, you can of course record a video directly in the app. After tapping “Next” in the top right corner, the filters appear. There are more symbols at the top of the bar. A short tap on the third icon is enough. A timeline with a white square is now displayed below the video. Simply drag the square to the desired location in the video to set the cover image and tap on “Next”.
2. Turn on the turbo
If photos and videos are loaded or displayed too slowly, you may need to take a look at the settings. Under “Use of the mobile data network”, the option “Lower data consumption” can be activated or deactivated as required.
3. Hide or sort filters
There are now numerous filters to choose from on Instagram. So that you don’t have to scroll through the whole palette again and again to find your own favorite filter, you can sort them or move them forward in the list. Users can easily hide filters that are not used. To do this, swipe to the far right in the filter list and tap on the “Manage” option.
4. Find photos on which you are marked
If you want to know which recordings you can see, that is, which recordings you are marked, you will find what you are looking for by tapping the fourth icon above the picture gallery of your own profile.
5. Share photos with friends
If you want to send photos to your friends, you have to tap the box symbol in the upper right corner of the main Instagram window to get to Instagram Direct. Then click on the plus at the top right and a message including the photo / video to be sent will be created.
6. Correct perspective and alignment
If you tap on the wrench symbol and then on Adjust when posting a photo, you can use a slider below the photo to change the orientation (or the angle of inclination) and the vertical and horizontal perspective of the recording.
7. Linking with other social media accounts
Many Instagram users are also logged on to Facebook or Twitter. If you would like to link these accounts with each other, you have to tap the settings symbol in the top right (gear) in your own profile. Then go to “Linked accounts” to link the account to external accounts. Of course, the whole thing also works on other platforms such as Flickr or Tumblr. Users can conveniently share new content directly in all connected accounts.
8. Show world map with locations of posts
Did you know that you can view a map of the world with all the places where Instagram posts have been posted? One of our Instagram tips for this is: Click on the third icon above the picture gallery to see where the photos of your contacts were taken. All you have to do is tap the corresponding symbol in the respective profile.
9. Swipe instead of typing
Some menus in Instagram can be controlled intuitively by gesture and not by tip, such as the likes, by swiping in from the edge of the screen. This works, for example, if you have started the Instagram camera. Users can switch between library, photo and video.
