- Siri doesn’t hear or understand you.
- Dictate text doesn’t work when you are composing a text message.
- Walkie-Talkie doesn’t work.
- Recording a voice memo doesn’t work.
- People don’t hear you when you are on phone or FaceTime calls on your watch.
The above features may not be working properly for you because they depend on the microphone. When your watch is listening, you will see a mic icon, as seen below, if your watch is running watchOS 7 or later:
How to fix Apple Watch microphone not working?
- Set the microphone to off. The mic may not function because wax, dirt, or other debris may have plugged the mic hole. Cleaning the mic opening on your watch is the first thing to do. The mic hole is above the Side button and beneath the Digital Crown on the right side of your watch. Make sure the microphone hole is not obstructed. Clean it gently. A gentle, somewhat wet cloth can be used. Additionally, make sure that your Apple Watch’s microphone is not obscured by a case.
- Update. Make sure your Apple Watch and iPhone are up to date. To check and, if necessary, update your device, click to Settings > General > Software Update on your watch and phone.
- Restart. Test the microphone once more after turning on and off your watch and phone.
- Apple Watch: Hold down the Side button while pressing. the Power Off slider, move it. When the Apple logo appears, press and hold the Side button.
- iPhone X and later: Hold down the Volume Up (or Down) and Side buttons simultaneously until the Power Off slider displays. Utilize the slider. To turn on your device, press and hold the Side button once more.
- Other iPhone models: Hold the Side or Top button down until the Power Off slider appears. Utilize the slider. Once more, press and hold the Side or Top button until the Apple logo appears.
- 4. You can identify whether the issue is with the software, settings, or hardware of the microphone. Let’s record a voice memo to see if the microphone is functional. As follows:
- On your watch, open the Voice Memos app.
- Simply press the red record button. Make a recording.

- Look over your settings. Check your settings if you’re experiencing issues with your microphone on a specific app:
- If Siri does not respond to your commands, check to see if it is activated and that your device is online. To activate Siri:

- Navigate to Settings > Siri on your watch.
- Make sure that Dictation and Siri are not limited.
- Make sure Siri & Dictation is turned on in Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions > Allowed Apps on your iPhone.
- Make sure your watch has Dictation turned on. Make sure Enable Dictation is enabled on under My Watch > General in the Watch app on your phone.
- 6. Make sure your microphone is not muted before calling someone if it’s not working. You’ll see a mute button when you get a call. When you press the mute button, your watch’s microphone is turned off, so nobody else can hear you speak. It is a straightforward issue, yet it could arise.
- Make sure that Noise Monitoring is turned on in the Noise app if your watch cannot detect noise levels using the microphone.
- Make sure that the Microphone is turned on in Privacy as well.
- Make sure Measure Sounds is turned on under Settings > Privacy > Microphone.
- Reset the watch’s connections if the problem persists. Your watch will be reset to factory settings when you unpair it. You can couple it from your backup when you pair it again. Here’s how to disassemble and reassemble:
- Put your watch and phone side by side.
- Open the Watch app on your iPhone, navigate to My Watch > All Watches, tap the info I button next to the watch, and then select Unpair Apple Watch. obey the directions displayed on the screen. Alternately, you can carry out this action on your watch by selecting Erase All Content and Settings under Settings > General > Reset.
- Reset your watch after that. During this process, you will be prompted to choose between setting up as new and restoring from a backup. Select to restore data from a backup.
