The new DualSense Edge controller was unveiled at Gamescom. The DualSense Edge controller is a premium controller that was first unveiled during Opening Night Live and seems to be Sony’s response to Xbox’s Elite controller line.

The highly customizable controller, which enables you to set custom control mappings and even deactivate particular buttons, was described in a new PS Blog entry.

Visually, the controller is very much alligned with the normal DualSense, but with a few extra elements to bring it up to premium standards. As with the Xbox controller, you can expect swappable thumb stick caps and adjustable dead zones. Before going deeper into the new DualSense Edge controller, you might want to learn how to update the PS5 DualSense controller.

DualSense Edge controller first impressions

While the controller was shown in shadow in the trailer, we can see paddle switches/back bottons on the rear (which can be in dome or level-style configurations), as well as some kind of new surface beneath the analogue sticks.

Similar to how they appear on the faceplate of the PlayStation 5, PlayStation insignia are likewise etched in the triggers and inlaid over the touchpad for aesthetic purposes.

A switch with three settings is visible on the rear shoulder of the controller, and it is most likely used to change the triggers’ travel distance.

DualSense Edge controller features

  • Ultra-customizable controls

By remapping or deactivating particular button inputs, as well as altering stick sensitivity and dead zones (the distance your analog stick must move before it is recognized in a game), you can customize the DualSense Edge wireless controller to be uniquely yours.

Additionally, you can customize the travel distance and dead zones for each trigger to suit your preferences. For instance, you can manually shorten the triggers’ travel distance for quicker inputs in competitive first-person shooter games or shorten the dead zone for accurate throttle control in racing games.

  • Ability to save multiple control profiles

You can save your optimal control settings to individual profiles and switch between them whenever you want once you’ve discovered them. Whether you’re playing God of War Ragnarök or competing players in an online battle royale, you’ll always have your chosen controls for your games ready to go with the DualSense Edge wireless controller.

  • On-controller user interface

You can swiftly switch between your pre-set control profiles, modify the game loudness and chat balance, and enter the controller profile settings panel to set up and test new control iterations while playing by pressing the dedicated Fn button while keeping your attention on the in-game action.

  • Changeable stick caps and back buttons

You can stay comfortable in the game while retaining grip and stability thanks to three different types of interchangeable stick caps (standard, high dome, and low dome). More crucial controls are now at your fingertips thanks to the two swappable sets of back buttons (half-dome and lever), which may be set up to be any other button input.

  • Replaceable stick modules

Play longer with the controller’s ability to completely replace each individual stick module (replacement stick modules will be sold separately).

  • Built-in DualSense wireless controller features

When playing compatible games, the DualSense Edge wireless controller keeps the comfort and immersive experience that have made it famous, including haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, a built-in microphone, motion controls, and more.

The DualSense Edge controller also includes stick caps and back button sets. The USB Type-C braided cable has a connector housing to seal into the controller so it’s less likely to fall loose at a vital moment. The carrying case that is included allows you to charge the DualSense Edge wireless controller while it is kept in storage and keeps all of the accessories and parts organized in one place.
