The popular streaming platform Netflix will add live streams to its service soon. Netflix might be a key platform for stand-up artists and other live shows soon, Deadline reports.

Deadline notes that support for live streams might open the door for Netflix to broadcast live reunions, such as the one recently held by the real estate reality series Selling Sunset, as well as allowing real-time voting for competition shows.

A convenience feature like this might also be used by Netflix to show live stand-up comedy programs. This year’s Netflix Is a Joke Fest was the company’s first-ever live and in-person comedy festival, which took place in Los Angeles and included over 130 top comics, including Ali Wong, Bill Burr, Jerry Seinfeld, John Mulaney, and more.

Later this month, Netflix will begin airing some of the shows it recorded at the event, but a live option may give users at home the opportunity to view events as they occur.

We don’t know much about the forthcoming feature just yet. One of Netflix’s major competitors, Disney Plus, has already started offerling live streams. In February, Disney Plus live streamed the 94th Academy Awards, making it the service’s first such event.

In Netflix’s most recent earnings call, the streaming service reported losing users for the first time in over a decade, while Disney Plus grew its current user base by 7.9 million in the first quarter of 2022. In order to offset a drop in income and subscribers, Netflix has hinted at restricting password sharing as well as creating a cheaper ad-supported streaming option. Most likely, Netflix will add live streams in a month or two. Many people are wondering why is Netflix losing subscribers, let’s find out.
