TikTok-ification arrived on Spotify. It’s possible that Spotify is developing a scrollable feed of videos to go with its music collection, according to reports. It won’t have the raw mayhem of TikTok, but it will have plenty of fun.
TikTok-ification: Spotify Discover
Spotify’s new Discover feature was spotted by product designer Chris Messina in the testing beta version of the mobile app. The Discover icon can be found near the bottom of the screen in the toolbar, and it takes up the entire screen. Despite this, Messina only features three of his Discover videos in his preview. All of them appear to be excerpts from official music videos.

Users can scroll up and down to flick between videos on Spotify Discover in the same way as TikTok, with the exception of its navigation. A bar at the bottom of the screen displays the song title, artist, and album art, while users may like a video by tapping on a heart icon.
Spotify Discover seems to be aimed at making discovering new music more engaging, perhaps even a little more fun. It’s designed as a purpose-built song recommendation tool for when you want to grow your playlists. Discover, on the other hand, may be improved by making a distinction between TikTok and other social media platforms since scrolling through videos on TikTok is only seldom used for productive purposes.

We don’t know when this new functionality will be added to Spotify if it will be released at all. But don’t be shocked if your favorite musicians start posting their own authorized routines through Discover in the future.
