The suppliers of tech giants like Apple and Samsung make workers sleep on factory floors to avoid spreading the COVID-19 in Vietnam. It seems that the pandemic is growing again in some countries in the world, just ask the Vietnamese workers of some of the big technology companies. They are sleeping in their factories to avoid COVID-19 infections.

The COVID-19 pandemic is on the rise in Vietnam

The situation in the Asian country is not looking good, all the authorities are trying not to compromise Vietnam’s advantageous position in the global technology supply chain.

Thus, some factories in the most important industrial areas of the country are setting up camping areas or installing huge dormitories with metal bunk beds and bamboo mattresses, allowing their employees to temporarily move into the factories to continue their work shifts away from the virus.

Samsung is reorganizing the offices as dormitories and making conditions more flexible for all its employees in their huge Thai Nguyen complex.

Many factories set up camps and shelters, while Samsung implements a smart work plan with offices converted into dormitories and the authorities are working hard to send the tech companies as many doses of the vaccine as possible.

So roughly speaking, we are talking about more than 150,000 workers involved in the Bac Ninh and Bac Giang areas alone with 15-day work cycles. After resting at home, there’s a mandatory quarantine measure.

It should be noted that Vietnam, in recent years, was inheriting this former position of China as a “global factory”, partly because of trade wars and also because of the lower costs involved in producing in the country, hence the authorities are more involved than ever in keeping the factories and production structures active.

Not surprisingly, a worker who agreed to comment on the situation acknowledged that his experience is not the best and it is a bit difficult to sleep and rest in the factory, but he understands the needs and everyone is aware of a situation that will be temporary.

In any case, the only certainty is that COVID-19 infections have been on the rise in Vietnam for some months now, and even important factories like Foxconn or Luxshare, where Apple’s AirPods headphones are assembled, have been forced to close temporarily as a precaution.
