Today, thanks to some leaks, we were able to learn that the popular social media Instagram is preparing a new feature called Exclusive Stories similar to the Super Follow of Twitter. Today you can share stories on Instagram for everyone, for your followers, or for your best friends. Instagram is working on a fourth mode to make users share exclusive stories for fans.

Alessandro Paluzzi has been in charge of revealing the details of this feature. The screenshots show exclusive stories for fans, which are highlighted with a purple heart.

Although Instagram has not confirmed the exclusive stories, the screenshots that have been taken by @alex193 speak for themselves. Basically, just as it is possible to create stories visible only to those who have been marked as best friends, it will also be possible to create stories for fans. Those who are not fans will not be able to see them.

The concept is very much aimed at monetizing the service in a similar way to how Twitter’s Super Follow works, although at the moment this has not been confirmed. As an example, on Twitter, a Super Follow subscription for $4.99 per month gives you access to an account’s exclusive content. It’s possible that Instagram has something similar in mind.

While Twitter officially announced Super Follow in February, the system is not yet implemented. And there are some requirements like having more than 10,000 followers. We will have to see if Instagram opts for similar requirements.

What we do know is that these exclusive stories will be highlighted in purple, this will differentiate them from the normal stories, in pink and orange, and from the posts for best friends, in green. It will not be possible to take a screenshot of these stories, at least in the current state of this prototype.
