Samsung has just updated its affordable Galaxy Tab A tablet family. The new model is priced at $279, offering an 8.4-inch screen, a 5,000mAh battery and 4G LTE support.

Samsung Galaxy Tab A 2020 specs and features

There are other changes compared to last year’s Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8.0. Not only the screen has grown (from 8 to 8.4 inches), but also the resolution has upped to 1920×1080 pixels from 1280×800 pixels. At the heart of the tablet, lies an eight-core platform. Samsung, as usual, does not indicate the CPU model. But since last year’s model was equipped with a quad-core SoC Snapdragon 429, this is clearly an improvement. The RAM is increased to 3GB from 2GB, but the flash memory is still only 32GB. It’s good to know you can increase it thanks to the microSD card support up to 512GB. The resolution of the front camera increased from 2 to 5 megapixels. The main camera remained 8-megapixel.

Samsung updated the budget model, but not without compromises. The battery capacity was slightly reduced – from 5100 to 5000mAh. The new model also lost its support for the S Pen.

In addition, the old Android Pie OS is installed on the new 8.4-inch Samsung Galaxy Tab A, although Android 10 was released back in September 2019.

Dimensions and weight for the Galaxy Tab A 8.4 (2020) are 201.93×125.22×7.11mm and 309g respectively. The new model made its debut in the US market and is currently only sold through Verizon, but sales will soon start in other operators, including AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint and US Cellular. Whether it will appear in other markets is still unknown.
