Google has shared various data reflecting the recent improvement applied to Chrome 89 for Android, the browser will start 13% faster and consume less memory. Plus, the company assures increased stability. The improvements were introduced with the M89 version of the browser.

Talking about Google Chrome usually brings two facts to mind: it is the most popular browser and it uses a lot of resources. Google is aware of this and it is trying to optimize the performance with each version.

Chrome 89 on Android is faster at launching and loading pages

The test versions receive almost daily updates, all to advance small improvements and new features in addition to making the app run stable. This has been reducing the browser’s poor optimization, especially on mobile phones.

As Google has explained, the open-source version of the browser took a big leap thanks to several changes in the code. Those changes are:

  • 13% faster at startup. Chrome does not load full saved tabs but rescues a lighter version while full websites are downloaded in the background. This lighter version is equally functional.
  • 2% faster page loading.
  • 5% reduction in memory consumption.
  • 7.5% improvement in the startup. This applies to the application in general, not just when Chrome had tabs loaded before closing.
  • 64-bit Chrome for Android 10: The page loading of mobile phones with more than 8GB RAM improves by 8.5% with 28% smoother scrolling and lower tap latency.

Google achieved most of the improvements by downloading Chrome from ‘bundles’ or split APKs for various phone versions and models. Thanks to this optimization, the browser adapts to a greater extent to the hardware requirements, thus improving the experience.

All data provided by Google has been captured by the company with respect to Chrome versions prior to M89. This version is now available for everyone.
