Will Motorola Moto G100 be the same as Motorola Edge S?

Motorola’s plans for 2021 seem quite ambitious, although there are movements such as the Motorola Moto G100 that are, to say the least, striking. And, except for some surprise in this regard, it seems that the so-called top of the range of the brand in Europe will be practically a clone of another model that we met recently, and that is none other than the Motorola Edge S. Yes, what seems to be the flagship of the brand for our market in 2021, would only have slight differences to the one presented in January.

Motorola Moto G100: Twin brother of the Motorola Edge S?

It should be clarified, however, that at the moment all we know officially is that Motorola has published a tweet with the text “There is much more to come, stay tuned! #hellomoto #YouWantItYouGotIt”, with a video animation of what, based on previous leaks and rumors, should be the Moto G100 that, along with the G50 would complete the offer halfway between high-end and upper-middle range of the manufacturer that, until relatively recently, seemed to be concentrating all its efforts on the mid-range, with very good results we might add.

The 18 seconds of the video tell us, although there is not a single word, some very interesting aspects of what could be the Moto G100. The most notable aspect, without a doubt, is that it will be equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 SoC, an improved version of Snapdragon 865 that, however, does not reach the level of 888, which we expect to see in a few flagships this year. And it matches at this point, as we commented before, with the Motorola Edge S.

Other data that we extract from the video are that it has a fingerprint scanner on the side and something that, in the absence of confirmation, seems to be a multifunction button, which could either change function depending on the context or could be assigned by the user to some specific function. And on the bottom of the Moto G100, we find two connectors: A USB-C and a headphone jack (thank you, Motorola, for thinking of those of us who prefer wired headphones). Presumably, the USB-C port will allow fast, 20-watt charging.

Based, therefore, on what we have been able to see in the video, we can bet with some confidence that Moto G100 and Motorola Edge S will be two twins. Perhaps with some small change in the first, but certainly minor modifications, which will keep both as identical. The big question is whether, as the version for the Chinese market, there will also be three versions of the Moto G100.

Remember that the Edge S has 6GB of RAM LPDDR5x and 128GB of storage, with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage, and the top model has 8GB RAM and 256GB storage. It will be interesting to see if there are any changes in this regard, either in the number of versions or in their specifications. What should not change is the battery, which would also be 5,000mAh.

Regarding its screen, the Edge S has a 6.7-inch IPS LCD panel with FullHD+ resolution (2,520 x 1,080 pixels) with a density of 409ppi, and a refresh rate of 90Hz. And yes, good news for the detractors of curved screens, the Moto G100 would also not repeat what we saw in the Edge and Edge+.

At the moment there are no dates or prices for the arrival of the Moto G100, but given that we are talking about the variant of a smartphone that was already presented a month and a half ago in China, it is to be expected that it will be soon and that its arrival on the market will not take too long after its official announcement.
