YouTube PiP feature coming to all browsers with iOS 14.5. The Picture in Picture feature debuted on iOS with the iPad, however, it took several years before Apple decided to include it on the iPhone range, specifically with the release of iOS 14. YouTube offers this possibility to all users who pay the premium subscription through its official app.

However, as Apple introduced the PiP feature in Safari with iOS 14, the search giant enabled this functionality in Safari by visiting YouTube with the first iOS 14 updates, with iOS 14.0.1, a feature that disappeared in the following updates. Being a premium feature of YouTube’s Premium subscription, it was only logical that it would be removed.
Fortunately, it will return and it will do so with the next iOS update, number 14.5. But, unlike at launch, the PiP feature through the YouTube website will be available for all browsers.
The YouTube app will most likely still not offer support for the PiP feature among those users who do not pay the Premium subscription, a subscription that is priced at €11.99 per month and also offers other benefits.
The guys at 9to5Mac, where the video shown in this article comes from, have tested the operation of the PiP function in YouTube in Safari as well as in Chrome and Firefox, so it is likely that the rest of the browser, at least the most used ones, are also compatible.
