What is Clubhouse, all you need to know about the exclusive audio-only social network

What is Clubhouse, recently everybody is talking about this exclusive audio-only social network, and today we are going to get to know it better.

In recent years, streaming content and podcasts have been major players in the global entertainment arena. Platforms dedicated to the distribution of this content are dominating the market and it is not by mere chance.

But what would happen if we mix both scenarios? That’s where Clubhouse comes in, a social network that is focused on voice streaming and already exceeds one million active users. If you want to know more about this platform and how you can be part of it, keep reading all the information we bring you.

What is Clubhouse and what can you do on it?

We said that Clubhouse combined streaming content and podcasts, creating a hybrid between both formats. We could say that it is like Twitch but purely audio.

The idea was born in 2020 by Paul Davidson and Rohan Seth and is focused on the creation of “rooms”, which are chat rooms where participants can talk about any topic without any limitations, so it is totally ephemeral.

For now, the platform is designed to capture sound directly from the microphone of the phone or headset, either wired or Bluetooth without prioritizing audio quality, making it a more casual and natural interaction without the need for professional equipment.

Can you only interact by voice?

As we mentioned, this is a social network specialized in the transmission of content in audio format, so there is no possibility of obtaining other types of interaction.

This makes it very specialized in the type of audience that accesses this social network (apart from other aspects that we will discuss later), so it is a way to directly filter the content.

One of the most striking aspects of Clubhouse is that it is very similar to one of the projects Twitter is working on, which is related to podcast-style streaming content.

How does one get into Clubhouse?

It is currently a very exclusive social network and by this, we do not mean that it is only for audio content, but the only way to enter it is through a personalized invitation sent to you by a member who is already on the platform.

However, there is another option and that is by registering on the waiting list to reserve your username. This is only available for iOS users and the app is currently in a Beta phase.

When will it reach all users?

At the moment, the platform is in a Beta phase and under development. In addition, it is only available for iOS, and for now, the creators of this application have just confirmed that Clubhouse will arrive very soon to all Android smartphones.

It is currently unknown when it will be available for anyone or other operating systems, although when this happens it could turn out to be an incredible tool for many people since the possibilities are endless.

For example, it would be ideal for online classes, conferences, forums, and many other options, where the speaker(s) can impart knowledge and information, while a moderator controls the interaction of the participants to clarify doubts, explain the subject better or participate in the topic.

Which celebrities are using it?

So far, several celebrities and show business personalities have used this platform. Although only a few Silicon Valley influencers had the privilege of using it, today personalities such as Drake, Tiffany Haddish, Jared Leto, Ashton Kutcher, Chris Rock or Oprah, among others, have been part of Clubhouse.

“When you open the app, you can see ‘rooms’ full of people talking — all open so you can hop in and out, exploring different conversations. You enter each room as an audience member, but if you want to talk, you just raise your hand, and the speakers can choose to invite you up,” said the creators of Clubhouse.
